CABLE SPIKERS & SPIKING TOOLS 

Cable spikers manufactured by Accles & Shelvoke use cartridges which when fired drive a steel spike into MV-HV electric cables to achieve a short circuiting of the power supply and ensure the cable is “dead” (de-energised) – the medium/high voltage cable is then electrically safe and proven “dead” to conduct routine maintenance including jointing, terminating and testing.

Typical cable voltages include LV, 11kV, 33kV, 66kV, 132kV and 275kV with outside diameters up to 110mm.

For transmission and distribution cables with thicker cable insulation a heavy duty cable spiker is available – suits cables up to 150mm diameter with extra high voltages (EHV) up to 400kV.

SPIKING HV CABLES

The cable spiker tool features a remote firing procedure to provide electrical safety to the user and is suitable for spiking single and 3 core MV-HV cables with XLPE insulation (polymeric) and shielded/unshielded with steel wire armour (SWA), braid or lead sheath covered – a hydraulic cable spiking tool is also available.
