Metrology products
The measuring devices we develop enable a non-destructive measuring survey and documentation of actual conditions of various rail types. We offer the right device for straightness, track gauge, wear, temperature and many other required measurements. Our measuring devices are constantly further developed, in close cooperation with our clients and aided by the newest technologies.
Longitudinal rail profile/Straightness measuring devices
The proper control of the track geometry in regular periods and after rail grinding is absolutely required to limit maintenance costs and increase driving comfort,. For this task, we offer electronic straightedges differing with equipment tailored to special applications. All devices enable the direct reading of measuring values after the measurement is performed, the recording of the results as well as further data processing and documentation on a PC.
Straightness measuring device "Straightedge Compact (SEC)"/"Straightedge Compact RC (SEC RC)"
Measurement and complete straightness documentation of running surface and edge including all section-relevant data. The SEC is the design approved for years, the SEC RC is an interesting new development with PDA measuring computer.
Straightness and corrugation measuring device "Rail Surface Scanner (R2S)"
The electronic straightedge R2S Rail Surface Scanner enables the application of the SEC and a corrugation measuring function, and therewith the measurement and documentation of short-waved unevenness.
Dual electronic straightness measuring device "Straight Edge Dual (SED)"
The running surface and running edge are simultaneously measured and documented with the dual straightness measuring device SED. After the measurement, the data are transferred to the measuring computer by Bluetooth, are depicted and can be documented later. On request, the device can be delivered with a PDA measuring computer.
Dual Laser-Straightness measuring device "Long Straightedge Dual (LSED)"
The Laser-straightedge LSED enables the straightness determination of rails on larger lengths up to 15 m und up to 50 m. This allows us to perform measurements on both short-waved and long-waved longitudinal unevenness. The device enables the simultaneous measurement and documentation of the running surface and running edge. During the continuous measurement, the data are transferred to the measuring computer by Bluetooth, are depicted after the measurement and can be documented later.

Track position measuring devices
An optimal track position is a prerequisite for operational safety and driving comfort of the continuously welded tracks. The evaluation of the track position of the continuously welded track is possible based on the knowledge of the values determined with our measuring devices.
Track and turnout measuring trolley "TrackScan ME 3.01 / ME 4.01"
The track and turnout measuring trolley "TrackScan ME 3.01 / ME 4.01“ determines the parameters relevant for the track position.
Track gauge and superelevation measuring device "K700"
The track gauge and superelevation measuring device K700 enables the measurement of track gauge and superelevation.
Rail wear measuring devices
Rail height and site wear measuring device "VKBF 10"
With the rail height and site wear measuring
Temperature measuring devices
Digital stick-on rail thermometer "Mo 40CL"
The digital stick-on rail thermometer Rail Temp Mo40LC is particularly suitable for the measurement of the rail temperature for the production of continuously welded track. Reading errors are avoided thanks to the digital design of the temperature display
Analogue stick-on rail thermometer
More detailed information on these approved and robust thermometers is available in our
Measuring devices for high temperature and special applications

Long-/short-term stress measurements & Stress Free Temperature
& Neutraltemperatur
Due to temperature changes, stresses are generated in continuously welded track; their sum exerts a significant influence on track operation safety. The exact knowledge and control of these stresses is therefore indispensable for a safe operational procedure. With our measuring devices we are able to measure and document these.
Measurement of stresses and Stress-Free Temperature using RailScan
The measuring device RailScan enables measuring mechanical stress state of the track and thus the Stress-Free Temperature. This is carried out non-destructively without any obstruction and can be integrated in the operational procedure of the network operator. Additional track possessions are not required.
The RailScan device is used for the
- preventive determination of actual Stress-Free Temperature/stress condition
- Control of cw-track production (e.g. final welds, re-establishment of required stress conditions)
- Complete railway inspection.
The service comprises the complete measuring performance, evaluation and report creation
Measurement of stresses and Stress-Free Temperature using a strain gauge (s. g.) technique
The mechanical stress state can be determined using strain gauges alterations. This is possible on railway rails, their components or other construction parts. Both long- and short-time measurements are possible here.
This method is used, amongst else, during the control of the cw-track production (Stress-Free Temperature) and the subsequent long-time stress monitoring. Presently, projects of national and municipal railway companies are metrologically supported.
Residual stress measurements
Various measuring tasks for the determination of residual stresses, particularly in rails, are taken, using magnetic testing facilities as well as the strain gauge hole-drilling method.
