It’s all about mission success. GMS rugged small form factor (SFF) mission computers, workstation computers, and server/switch networking systems are designed to pack maximum performance and I/O in the smallest package to achieve mission success on the battlefield. Designed for air, land and sea, our systems are either conduction- or air-cooled, available over -40°C to +85°C operation, and offer the highest SWaP in the industry. Equipped with the latest Intel Core i7 CPUs (from 8thGen Kaby Lake to 11thGen Tiger Lake, plus Atom Bay Trail and Elkhart Lake), our mission computers have up to 26x 1GbE ports and 4x 10GbE ports, USB 4, Thunderbolt and PCIe Gen 3/Gen 4 I/O. Of course, they’re designed for ballistic shock and helicopter vibration, are avionics certified with MIL-STD-1275 or MIL-STD-704 power supplies, and are designed for ultra long life (up to 15 years or more)..

 

General Micro Systems' Mission Computing Systems are targeted for applications where traditional VPX/VME/cPCI ATR packaging (card cage, power supply, fan trays, etc.) can not be considered due to size, weight, cost or other limiting factors. They also pack the highest performance with the lowest power consumption in the smallest package possible, making them a responsible choice for space constrained applications. All of our systems use only embedded devices to provide long life cycles, and to withstand harsh environmental conditions for MIL/Aero applications - meeting MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-1275D, MIL-STD-901D, MIL-STD-461E, DO-160D and IP67, to name a few.

MOBILE CLASS SYSTEMS are designed to be the smallest, lowest-power, and lightest weight. These computers utilize ultra-low-power consuming CPUs and support devices to achieve total system power usage of 15 watts or less. The latest MOBILE CLASS SYSTEMS incorporate the Intel® Atom™ Bay Trail quad core processor for the best performance to power ratio of any CPU on the market - with up to 8GB of RAM, high-speed I/O and limited expansion for custom I/O functions. GMS-General Micro Systems Workstation Class Systems

WORKSTATION CLASS SYSTEMS are designed to meet more demanding applications where powerful multi-core processors are required from a system designed for maximum power with up to 64GB of RAM, ample standard and custom high-speed I/O, and a high degree of modularity. 75 watts or less (typically much less) distribution. These systems offer high-speed I/Os such as 1 and 10 Gigabit Ethernet, SATA, as well as standard I/O interfaces such as PMC/XMC and PCIe Mini-based Special Application Modules (SAM™) for the highest throughput I/O. 3.6 Gigabit/s, USB 3.0, DisplayPort/eDP, Thunderbolt® and much more. The WORKSTATION series also provides the widest selection of storage configurations from fully isolated removable nDrive™ or 2.5 inch SATA and NVMe drives, onboard M.2 or mSATA for onboard storage, or a removable enclosure up to 32TB! The latest GMS WORKSTATION-class systems feature superior graphics processing using the onboard Intel Graphics Processor (IGP) or additional GPUs from Nvidia® or AMD®. This series includes the broadest product offering with a multitude of variant configurations and can provide solutions for applications that require functionality beyond the typical embedded computer, such as multi-channel HD-DVR, FPGA integration, high-end graphics processing, SMPTE video. WORKSTATION systems are ideal for embedded computing applications with medium to high CPU requirements but limited by limited cooling options. General Micro Systems (GMS) provides high performance rack mount servers that are designed and developed from the ground up to be ultra-rugged. Offering rugged rack mount servers that are fully sealed and conduction- or convection-cooled, GMS delivers never-before seen options in 1U and 2U short-rack chassis. Leveraging modular GMS computing engines with multiple CPU options–including Intel® Xeon® D and Intel® Xeon® E5 v4—GMS rugged servers are highly configurable, upgradeable and long-life maintainable.

 

  • Value-priced MIL-SPEC Pedigree

    GMS approaches rack mount servers from a rugged MIL-SPEC mentality yet with an eye towards total system cost. Where other suppliers of “rugged” rack mount servers utilize off-the-shelf motherboards and "ruggedize" them with myriad commercial component schemes and cooling fans, GMS uses patent-pending RuggedCool™ conduction-cooled CPU boards that are designed to operate in harsh environments without fans. GMS rack mount systems are configurable to utilize either COTS connectors or military-style rugged interconnects that are fully sealed so our servers can operate in rain, sand, mud and under extreme shock and vibration (IP66/IP67). GMS also chooses components on semiconductor suppliers’ embedded roadmaps—assuring lifecycle longevity. GMS American-made motherboards—as opposed to foreign-sourced and commercial roadmap motherboards—provides customers with long-term, reliable server operation and maintenance.

General Micro Systems’ rugged routers and switches offer the most cost effective, and ultra-high-density network products on the market. GMS’ routers/switches are available in several different types of packaging for a variety of applications and industries.  They can be fully integrated within a GMS small form factor computer system, may operate as stand-alone, or can be packaged for rack mount solutions  Fully sealed and conduction cooled, these products employ MIL-style connectors to provide a rugged router/switch solution that can be deployed in the harshest environments.

 

GMS’ routers/switches provide both hardware and software solutions by utilizing the latest technologies and are fully customizable by the user to provide the highest functionality, as well as increased security through intelligent frame processing.

 

Other unique advantages of GMS rugged router/switches are the power options. Although these products may operate from standard 110VAC, they may also operate from “dirty” vehicle power of 28VDC via an integrated MIL-STD-1275 power supply. This MIL-STD-1275 power allows the GMS’ rack mount servers to operate in vehicles without the use of power inverters, which degrade power efficiency and add significant weight to the overall system.

 

Designed to meet the highest MIL standards, GMS routers/switches are ideal for environments where dirt, dust, chemicals, extreme temperature, shock, vibration and other harsh elements prevent the use of commercial routers and switches, as well as in environmental conditions where space and weight are major considerations.

GMS-General Micro Systems SAM™ I/O Modules

Since the inception of the single board computer (SBC), users and suppliers have been faced with a major challenge regarding how to satisfy the I/O needs of a system using a common SBC platform in order to minimize inventory and increase functionality. These needs have led to many standard and non-standard solutions that provide the SBC with expansion I/O sites and allow the user to pick and choose which I/O subassemblies will be added to the SBC.  A few such I/O modules are Industry PAC (IP), PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC), and Express Mezzanine Card (XMC).

General Micro Systems' approach to this expansion has led to many innovations in the industry, including the SAM™ technology. SAM™ modules, unlike PMC/XMC, provide over 90% space efficiency. They also provide the same functionality of the I/O mentioned above in a 30mm x 51mm, which is less than 1/7th of the space of a PMC/XMC. Therefore, with the same amount of real estate as a PMC/XMC, a GMS system can provide six independent I/O expansion sites at a lower cost than a single PMC/XMC site.

RUGGED DISPLAYS are available with embedded computers or without and are the most advanced displays on the market. Starting with the highest quality and brightness, highest resolution and longest-life LCDs, GMS adds touchscreens, optional screen protectors and filters, and Night Vision mode or Daylight readability, to create an exceptionally rugged, durable, and thin system package that withstands more punishment than any electronics system should survive. Averaging only 2 inches thick, conduction-cooled (no fans), and made from the strongest alloys, our displays have survived over 100G of “ballistic” shock per MIL-S-901D. General Micro Systems’ SmartView™ Smart Panel PC displays incorporate Intel’s latest Xeon® E3 CPU (Kaby Lake, 2017 generation) in a full-featured embedded computer, complete with more memory, SSD disk storage, I/O, networking, and add-in functions than one could possibly believe. They utilize GMS’ conduction cooled single-board computer (SBC) technology with no fans, unlike other smart display manufacturers who incorporate low-end air-cooled PC SBC modules, such as COMExpress and PC/104. Our passive RuggedView™ displays are intended for lower price points but have similar construction, durability and reliability minus the embedded computer yet still include inputs like USB for control or VGA/DVI for a second input. GMS SmartView and RuggedView displays are available to operate over -20˚C to +80˚C or up to -40˚C to +80˚C (with heater). They can be flush mounted (“panel” mount) or use VESA mounts.
