News, June 8, 2009 New investigations in brownstock washing: K-Patents is a partner company in an ongoing research study that seeks ways to improve brownstock washing in the chemical pulping. The aim is to find a new more holistic mill level solution that minimizes washing loss and consumes less bleaching chemicals.

K-Patents Process Refractometers for Metal Machining and Mining Industries

K-Patents provides Process Refractometers for accurate in-line concentration and Brix measurements of water based hydraulic fluids. These are e.g. quenchants, cooling lubricants, cutting oils and coating fluids in the metal machining operations and hydraulic emulsions (longwall emulsions) in the longwall coal mining. Alumina mining and refining operations can also be improved by monitoring the concentration of caustic soda that is used to dissolve alumina. The purpose is to keep the concentration of hydraulic fluids or caustic constant while minimizing the use of fresh fluid or chemical. Fluid can be lost in the hydraulic circuit at extremely large rates. Unlike periodical sampling, continuous monitoring provides instant feedback as to changes in the fluid and to precise dosing and mixing of the fresh fluid.

K-Patents provides Process Refractometers for accurate in-line Brix and concentration measurements in the cane and beet sugar refining and milling processes. The purpose is to achieve high quality liquid and crystal sugars and to minimise costs of production. K-Patents refractometers are used:

  • to optimise extraction process and to minimize usage of water that needs to be removed from sugar juice later at the evaporator stage.
