ROESSEL thermocouples are produced and tested using latest equipment and processes, there by guaranteeing constantly high quality and reliability levels. Mineral insulated metal sheathed thermocouples

Mineral-Insulated Metal-Sheathed (MIMS) thermocouples were successfully introduced many years ago into temperature measurement technology.

The standard versions are mainly used in the range between -270 °C and +1200 °C. They combine the advantages of high flexibility and easy handling in an extremely wide temperature range. They are supplemented by high-temperature MIMS thermocouples for operating temperatures of 2000 °C and above.

Inconel 600 is mainly used as sheath material, a nickel-based alloy. This material can easily be welded and soldered, it possesses extremely good resistivity characteristics also at higher temperatures and is resistant against most ambient conditions.

The thermocouple is often the type K (NiCr-Ni) acc. to IEC 60 584-1. Widely in use are also types L resp. J (both Fe-CuNi) and in the higher temperature range the noble metal types S R and B, which are platinum/rhodium alloys. The thermocouple wires are embedded in a compact insulation of high-purity MgO and enclosed by a metal sheath of a nickel/chromium/iron alloy or of stainless steel. The compact insulation fixes the wires securely so that no damage can occur because of strong vibrations or high bending loads. Also short circuits between the wires or between wire and sheath are virtually impossible.

Straight Thermocouples

In numerous branches of industry heat-treatment and combustion processes play a decisive role during production and in the quality of the final product. These applications have one thing in common: Due to the high temperatures thermocouples are almost always used. Besides the non-precious-metal containing ones, mainly types E, J or L, K and N, platinum thermocouples types S, R or B are increasingly being used. These must be protected against contaminating, corrosive and/or abrasive ambient influences. Various designs with different protection tube materials are available for these applications.

Thermocouples in Thermowells

For protection against chemical and mechanical stresses thermocouples are installed in protective fittings. The optimal design is optained from the respective application.

Profile Thermocouples

Profile thermocouples are used to measure temperature sequences in ovens, conduits and ventilation ducts.

In this design several thermocouples of different lengths are mounted inside a protection tube and connected to each other by a connection cable - as the example shown in the photo. The thermocouples can be both insulated sheath thermometers as well as a combination of individual thermocouples.

The lengths are variable within a wide range and can be adapted to the requirements of the customer.

Transmitters

ROESSEL transmitters are manufactured with state-of-the-art components using SMD technology. They are extremely resistant and meet highest demands. They can withstand harshest ambient conditions, and can also be supplied with ATEX certification. Resistivity against radio frequency interference acc. to industrial NAMUR standards is met.

Programmable transmitters reduce the number of measuring ranges, like with analog transmitters, to only one design. Analog transmitters are supplied with potentiometer for calibration point of zero and span, alternatively without potentiometer for highest requirements.

Our transmitters are supplied in intrinsically safe design acc. ATEX in EEx ia / ib II c T6. The electromagnetic compatibillity is acc. standard of industry to EN 50081 and EN 50082.

ROESSEL transmitters are manufactured in different designs. Prefered is the mounting in the lid of the connection head or directly on the measuring insert. Designs for field housing are also available as well as rail-mounted housing in control cabinets

The programmable two-wire transmitter combines all the advantages of analog 2-wire transmitters with being in addition programmable. Using a standard PC and an interface adapter (RKA) all important parameters like measuring range, sensor type, etc. can be preset. Thus only one design is needed for all applications. In addition the programmable transmitters possess a galvanic insulation between input and output signal.

The microcomputer-controlled system reduces the type and range variety, usual with analog transmitters, to only one model. Significant lowered inventory costs, universal use, short change - over and shut - down times are the advantages.

For maximum operational safety and reliability in harsh ambient conditions like vibrations no mechanical components (potentiometers) are involved whereever possible. Extensive calculations like drift/offset compensation, linearisation, limit comparison are done ''on site'' which means immedialely close to the sensor.

For the transmitter configuration a RS232-interface adapter is available. A comfortable user-friendly software in Windows - technique is used for programming communication and operation. Standard parameters are available via the RS232-interface as well as the measuring value, limits, cool joint temperature and so on without affecting the analog output of 4 to 20 mA.

HART-Communication Two-wire transmitter for mounting in sensor-heads, field-housings or control panels.

Transmitters convert the low-level signal from thermocouple or resistance thermometer into a high-level standard signal. The non-linear input from temerature sensors is converted into a temperature or EMF - linear output signal, depending on programming, of 4 ... 20mA. The transmitter uses the HART - protocol and frequency shift keying on the 4 - 20 mA current output loop.

This system ensures either a multi - drop communication with up to 15 units or full operation as a - wire transmitter in a 4 - 20 mA current loop. The microcomputer-controlled system reduce type and range variety, usual with analog transmitters, to only one model. Significant lowered inventory costs, universal use, short change - over and shut - down times are the advantages.

In most cases an extension of existing systems is easy to realise.
